You can ride your e-bike on most roads and highways where conventional bikes are permitted, with some exceptions.
No e-bikes may be ridden on:
400 series highways
Municipal roads or sidewalks, where bicycles are banned under municipal by-laws
On municipal roads, sidewalks, bike paths, bike trails or bike lanes where e-bikes are prohibited by municipal by-laws

Pedal-Assisted E-Bike/ Pedelec (has no throttle and requires that user pedal to engage motor)
Permitted in Richmond Hill as follows:
- On-road (all municipal roads)
- Within the road boulevard on cycling facilities (cycle tracks, multi-use paths)
- Within the trail system, where bicycles are permitted
Power-Assisted E-Bike/ Throttle-Assisted E-Bike - Bicycle Style (has throttle that allows user to move without pedaling)
Permitted in Richmond Hill as follows:
- On-road (all municipal roads)
- Within the road boulevard on cycling facilities (cycle tracks, multi-use paths)
NOTE: not permitted within the park or trail system.
