Harper has done quite a bit on Ontario's auto industry including the recent investment in FORD. Is there any reason to believe the Liberal will do more for Ontario?

Saying that he does not care about Ontario because he's from the West is kind of discrimination.
Can anyone say we do not care about Canada because we are from China? The problem with the declining manufacturing sector has been affecting all advanced nations for many years. It's not just a problem in Canada. and certainly not caused by the Conservative government.
The global economy is focing the manufacturing jobs and factories to relocate to cheaper locations. It's hard for the Canadian auto workers to compete because they can't survive on $1 per hour pay like the Chinese workers can do
The better strategy for the government is to help the transition of the economy, to invest in creating
jobs for the future, not trying to bring back the jobs that won't stay.

  • 枫下茶话 / 政治经济 / There is conflict between west oil industy and east auto industy. It is understandable that Harper who is from west want to protect the west interest. But as Ontarian, we need to condemn him as federal PM for doing nothing for Ontario.
    • He has not done even anything symbolic. He is harming Ontario and even the whole Canada.
      • something.
        • Is it too old? Last year ontario has lost 13b export in auto sector. How much that 1B can do?
          • There is no magic way to save auto industry. The factory in US is struggling too. keep in mind, That's American's business. American decide how to run their business; when and where to build or close their plant.
            • The only way is to tell the American: if you want our oil, keep your auto business here. I think it's what these people want
            • 你当然想不到。
    • If Toronto voters still vote for all Liberals this time, Harper would even care less about Toronto once elected. And there will be no one in his government to speak for Toronto. It's that simple
      • Funny. Do you vote for somebody cause he doesn't care about you?
        • 哈伯可能并不尽人意,但敌安的碳税只会雪上加霜搞得更糟。你是选不尽人意的,还是选更糟的。

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Stephen Harper’s hypocritical funding announcement: too little, too late

        ISSUE:

Prime Minister Stephen Harper will make a funding announcement at the Ford plant in Essex today.

        REALITY:

        Too little, too late

        • Today’s announcement is too little, too late. Canada lost 95,000 private sector jobs in July, 2008 alone. While the Conservatives attempt to shore up one vulnerable seat, another 800 jobs were lost in Welland with the closing of the John Deere plant. Another 500 jobs were lost in Guelph last week with the closing of the Linamar plant. The key to strong jobs and a competitive manufacturing sector is innovation and producing the cars and products of the future. This Conservative government did nothing in two and a half years to help the auto sector reinvest in capital and innovation.

Conservatives flip-flop when it’s too late to do any good

        • On January 17, 2008, in response to the potential closing of the Ford Essex plant, Finance Minister Jim Flaherty stated that he would not pick “winners and losers.” On providing targeted aid to help save jobs in hard-pressed sectors, Mr. Flaherty said, “I’m not a band-aid solution kind of Finance Minister” (December 12, 2007). Investing at the eleventh hour, after a plant has announced it will close, is just not good enough for the Canadian people.

        The Conservatives abandoned Ontario

        • As Ontario’s economy faced significant challenges through 2007 and 2008, the Conservatives did nothing but say, “Canada’s economic fundamentals are strong.” In fact, the Finance Minister called Ontario “the last place to invest.” Since Minister Flaherty made his comment, 134,000 Ontarians in the manufacturing sector have lost their jobs.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
